CHW Behavioral Health Specialty Track
A short, practical specialty track focused on the fundamentals of behavioral health support. Learners build foundational knowledge of mental health and substance use disorders while strengthening core skills such as trauma-informed communication, crisis response, harm reduction, and community resource navigation. The track also addresses stigma, prevention strategies, and CHW well-being.
Learning objectives:

- Recognize available behavioral health and recovery resources
Includes the following modules
Module 1: Foundations of Behavioral Health
Gain an understanding of core behavioral health concepts, including mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions. Learn how different factors shape behavioral health and how CHWs can support individuals with behavioral health.
Module 2: Essential Skills of Behavioral Health Support
Build practical skills in behavioral health support, strengthen your ability to recognize crisis situations, and respond with empathy, clarity, and respect.
Module 3: CHWs as Behavioral Health Advocates & Community Connectors
Develop strategies to support prevention, treatment navigation, recovery, and stigma reduction in community settings. Learn how CHWs connect individuals and families to resources, strengthen recovery networks, and sustain their own well-being in frontline work.
