Deprescribing: A Multipart Series

This two-part learning series provides health professionals with the knowledge and tools to recognize opportunities for deprescribing, apply evidence-based strategies in dementia care, and initiate effective patient and family conversations using the FRAME approach.


Learning objectives: As a result of participating in this activity, 80% of participants will self-report increased knowledge in: Identifying patients who would benefit from deprescribing and processes that support deprescribing in practice. Recognizing scenarios in which deprescribing benefits a patient with dementia. Applying the FRAME approach to initiate patient and family conversations about deprescribing.

Module 1: Introduction to Deprescribing


In this course, Dr Sydney Springer will introduce the technique known as deprescribing.

Module 2: Deprescribing in Dementia


In this course, Dr Sydney Springer will teach you how to identify candidates for deprescribing amongst patients with dementia. She will discuss the benefits and risks to continued use of antipsychotics and anti-dementia medications in this population, and model deprescribing techniques.

Module 3: Deprescribing: Having the Patient Conversation


In this course, Dr Sydney Springer will help you identify common barriers to initiating the deprescribing conversation and teach the FRAME approach to initiating conversations around deprescribing and medication awareness.
